Pivot Turns
Skill 1 of 5
Why it matters
Switchbacks and tight trees leave no space for wide arcs. A pivot turn rotates the bike around the rear wheel to point exactly where you need.
Principles
- Lock the rear brake to anchor the bike, then use a quick clutch pop to bring the rear around.
- Look to the exit; keep your torso tall; stay balanced over the pegs.
How to train
Begin on flat ground with small rotations. Add slight slopes and both directions. Emphasize control, not speed.
Progress cues
Clean, accurate rotations left and right with minimal dabs.
