This is Erzberg, the 'Iron Mountain', and for four days each year, it transforms into the crucible of the Red Bull Erzbergrodeo – widely heralded as the toughest one-day off-road motorcycle race on the planet. More than just a competition, it is a grand festival of extreme enduro, drawing over 1,500 relentless competitors from 40 to 50 nations and tens of thousands of spectators who flock to witness this brutal battle of human and machine against the raw power of nature.

The Roof of Africa, the original “Mother of Hard Enduro,” has run since 1967 in Lesotho’s Maloti Mountains. Across three days and 250–350 km at altitudes from 1,400 m to over 3,000 m, riders tackle relentlessly steep donkey tracks, riverbeds, and rocky passes. Classes span Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Iron with strict age/experience rules from 14+, GPS tracking and helicopter support are mandatory, and it serves as a round, often the finale, of the FIM Hard Enduro World Championship. Recent champions include Wade Young and Graham Jarvis, with 2025 entries open to global stars like Manuel Lettenbichler and Billy Bolt.
