Body Positioning

Skill 2 of 6

Why it matters

Your lower body steers the bike; your upper body manages balance and vision. A neutral, athletic stance makes the bike track straight and frees your hands.

Principles

  • Stand centered over the pegs; soft knees and hips; light hands.
  • Move your hips to steer; let the front wheel find grip.
  • Sit with purpose on long, smooth sections to rest (not because you’re collapsing).

How to train

Alternate between sitting and standing on easy terrain. Notice how bar pressure changes steering. Keep eyes far ahead and breathe steadily.

Progress cues

Less arm pump, calmer bars, and easier corrections when the bike deflects.
