Brand Overview

Husqvarna began in 1689 as an arms maker for the Swedish crown and sold its first motorcycles in 1903. Swedish production ended in December 1987, when Cagiva took over and built the bikes in Varese, Italy. BMW Motorrad bought the brand from MV Agusta in 2007 and sold it to Pierer Industrie AG in January 2013. KTM AG took the brand licence in September 2013 and relaunched it as Husqvarna Motorcycles. The company is now Husqvarna Mobility GmbH in Mattighofen.

Husqvarna history: Swedish roots, Italian years, Austrian revival

Husqvarna started in 1689 as an arms maker for the Swedish crown. It began selling motorcycles in 1903. Husqvarna says no brand has won the Novemberkåsan, Sweden's oldest and best-known enduro, more often. Husqvarna put its first all-enduro machine on sale in 1970. By 2019 the brand counted 100 world titles, 58 for riders and 42 for manufacturers. The group's count stood at 122 by the end of 2025.

From Sweden to Italy, Germany and Austria

The last Swedish-built Husqvarna left the line on 3 December 1987. The Italian Cagiva group took over the brand and built its bikes in Varese. In July 2007, MV Agusta, then Cagiva's parent, agreed to sell Husqvarna to BMW Motorrad. On 31 January 2013, after five years, BMW announced the sale of Husqvarna to Pierer Industrie AG. Stefan Pierer, its owner, was also chief executive of KTM.

Later in 2013 the brand licence moved to KTM AG. KTM reunited it with its own Husaberg brand and relaunched it as Husqvarna Motorcycles. 2014 was the first full business year of the new company. Since then the brand has been run from Mattighofen, next to KTM.

The group crisis and Bajaj

Husqvarna is a brand of KTM AG. It went through the 2024–2025 insolvency with the rest of the group. KTM AG's restructuring plan paid creditors 30% and became binding in June 2025. Bajaj Auto took control of the listed parent on 18 November 2025. The parent was renamed Bajaj Mobility AG in January 2026. The full story is on our KTM page.

The crisis hit Husqvarna hard. The group sold 25,095 Husqvarna motorcycles in 2025, down 50.8% on 2024. The group said the Husqvarna bicycle brand would be sold out by the end of 2025. Bajaj Mobility still names Husqvarna as one of its three core motorcycle brands. The company in Mattighofen is now registered as Husqvarna Mobility GmbH. The brand uses the name "Husqvarna Mobility" in its product releases.

Where Husqvarna enduro bikes are made

Husqvarna has not built motorcycles in Sweden since December 1987. Under Cagiva and BMW the bikes came from Varese, Italy. Since the KTM takeover, the brand has been run from Mattighofen, Austria.

The group's 2025 annual report names only a few kinds of production outside the Mattighofen plant. Bajaj Auto builds small-engine KTM and Husqvarna models in India. GasGas trial bikes were built in Spain. Some models are built with CFMOTO in China. The TE and FE enduro bikes are not in that list. KTM built 48,377 motorcycles in Mattighofen in 2025.

A Husqvarna TE and a KTM EXC come from the same place and share the same fuel system, so the real differences are the chassis and the parts. The annual report's production list shows the first point. The two makers' spec sheets, set out below, show the second.

Husqvarna enduro lineup for 2027

Husqvarna unveiled its 2027 enduro range on 16 June 2026, with bikes at dealers from July 2026. The new models get white powder-coated frames, new graphics and WP XACT suspension at both ends. On 11 September 2026 two Pro models followed: the TE 300 Pro and FE 350 Pro.

The Pro adds a Factory Racing wheel set with Excel Takasago rims and Galfer discs. It also gets a Supersprox Stealth sprocket and front and rear disc guards. A clutch slave cylinder guard, a skid plate with linkage protection and a front pull strap come fitted. So do soft ODI grips, a ribbed seat, frame protectors and Brembo hydraulics.

The Husqvarna FE 450 four-stroke enduro bike has its own page. Husqvarna's motocross FC models have their own pages: the FC 350 and FC 450.

Husqvarna's hard enduro racing record

Graham Jarvis at Erzberg and Romaniacs

Graham Jarvis won most of his big races on Husqvarna-group bikes. In April 2022 Husqvarna counted five Erzbergrodeo wins and six Romaniacs wins for him. He had spent eight years as a Husqvarna Factory Racing rider. In 2022 he moved to his own Jarvis Racing Team, racing a TE 300i with Husqvarna support.

The official Erzbergrodeo result sheets show these winning bikes:

Year Red Bull Hare Scramble winner Bike (as entered)
2013 Graham Jarvis Husaberg EC 300
2015 Jarvis and Alfredo Gomez, classified first jointly with two KTM riders Husqvarna TE 300
2016 Graham Jarvis Husqvarna TE 300
2018 Graham Jarvis Husqvarna TE 300
2019 Graham Jarvis Husqvarna TE 300i

Billy Bolt finished second at Erzberg in 2023 and 2025 on a TE 300. More on the race: Red Bull Erzbergrodeo.

At Red Bull Romaniacs, the hall of fame lists Jarvis as winner in 2008, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2016, 2017 and 2022. That is seven wins, a record Manuel Lettenbichler equalled in 2026. Bolt was second in 2025.

Billy Bolt and the world championship

Bolt won the first FIM Hard Enduro World Championship in 2021 on a TE 300i. He clinched it with second place at the final round, GetzenRodeo. He was runner-up to Lettenbichler (KTM) in 2023 and 2025. He won Hixpania in 2024 and Abestone in 2025. Alfredo Gomez won Hixpania for Husqvarna in 2021. Mitch Brightmore finished fifth in the 2024 standings on a Husqvarna.

2026 has been hard for Bolt. He was second at the Alestrem opener. A hand injury kept him out of Erzberg, and knee surgery ruled him out of the Roof of Africa. Indoors, he won his sixth FIM SuperEnduro title in a row in February 2026, on an FE 350.

Husqvarna's hard enduro team shares its manager, Fabio Farioli, with the Red Bull KTM enduro team. In the US, the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing team ended its SuperMotocross program after the September 2026 final.

What sets Husqvarna enduro bikes apart

Linkage rear suspension

This is the big difference from KTM. Every Husqvarna TE and FE uses a WP XACT shock with a linkage. The KTM EXC mounts its shock directly with PDS. The current generation arrived for 2024 with a new chromium-molybdenum frame. Husqvarna says the new chassis improves anti-squat. The 2024 shock was 100 g lighter and 15 mm shorter than before, and kept 300 mm of travel. The fork is a 48 mm WP XACT closed-cartridge unit with a hydrostop in the last 68 mm of travel.

Our view: pick the TE 300 over the 300 EXC if you want linkage progression. The rear suspension is the main chassis difference on the two makers' spec sheets, so it should drive the choice. Linkage gives more tuning room on faster, bigger hits. PDS keeps the area under the swingarm clear on rock and logs. Our PDS vs linkage guide sets out the trade-off.

Hybrid subframe and ergonomics

The subframe is 60% polyamide and 40% aluminium and weighs 1.8 kg. The lower spars and frame mounts are cast aluminium. The upper part is injection-molded polyamide, chosen for set flex. A 22 mm rear axle is part of the same flex tuning.

Same engines as KTM

The two-strokes use Throttle Body Injection (TBI), new for 2024. The 39 mm Keihin throttle body and Vitesco engine management are listed on both brands' 300s. On the four-strokes, a handlebar Map Select Switch also runs traction control and a quickshifter. Our TBI vs TPI vs carb guide explains the fueling.

On the makers' model pages the TE 300 weighs 2.4 kg more than the 300 EXC. Its seat is 11 mm lower, and its tank holds 8.5 l against KTM's 9 l. For how it compares with Beta and Sherco, see our 300 two-stroke buyer's guide.
