Endurance

Skill 1 of 3

Why endurance matters in hard enduro

Most failures aren’t from one obstacle—they’re from fatigue making every decision worse. A solid aerobic base keeps your hands relaxed, your vision far, and your clutch gentle hours into a ride.

How to think about it

  • Aim for mostly easy, conversational efforts (often called Zone 2).
  • Build time before intensity. Consistency beats hero sessions.
  • Practice fueling and hydration as part of training, not as an afterthought.

Ways to build it

  • Steady riding, hiking, running, rowing, or cycling at a pace where nose‑breathing is comfortable.
  • Mix longer easy efforts with occasional short hills or tempo once the base is there.
  • Sprinkle in longer ride days as skills and logistics allow.

What good feels like

You recover quickly after a hard section, your heart rate settles fast, and your hands stay relaxed late in the day.

Practical tips

  • Eat small, frequent carbs and sip fluids regularly.
  • Heat management matters: shade, vents, electrolytes.
  • If technique degrades, back off—skills first, then fitness.
