Endurance
Skill 1 of 3
Why endurance matters in hard enduro
Most failures aren’t from one obstacle—they’re from fatigue making every decision worse. A solid aerobic base keeps your hands relaxed, your vision far, and your clutch gentle hours into a ride.
How to think about it
- Aim for mostly easy, conversational efforts (often called Zone 2).
- Build time before intensity. Consistency beats hero sessions.
- Practice fueling and hydration as part of training, not as an afterthought.
Ways to build it
- Steady riding, hiking, running, rowing, or cycling at a pace where nose‑breathing is comfortable.
- Mix longer easy efforts with occasional short hills or tempo once the base is there.
- Sprinkle in longer ride days as skills and logistics allow.
What good feels like
You recover quickly after a hard section, your heart rate settles fast, and your hands stay relaxed late in the day.
Practical tips
- Eat small, frequent carbs and sip fluids regularly.
- Heat management matters: shade, vents, electrolytes.
- If technique degrades, back off—skills first, then fitness.
