Hard enduro tours in Romania

Romania is where many riders go for hard enduro, because Red Bull Romaniacs runs here. Not every tour is hard enduro, though. Check the format before you book.

Hard enduro products, in the operators' words:

  • EnduRomaniaTours: Romaniacs tours for "Intermediate+" riders, with a Prologue day, €1,590 / €1,990.
  • EnduroNuts: Hard Enduro Riding, "Push the bike, push your limits", €1,350–€1,780 with a bike.
  • FM Tours: "Authentic hard enduro terrain, not tourist trails", from €1,050 for 3 riding days.
  • Power Riders Tours: the trails "the Red Bull Romaniacs is built on", from €540 on your own bike.
  • Transylvania Trails: Give Me Hard Enduro, €1,095 / €1,295.

If you want forest tracks without the pain, EnduroNuts says plainly of its adventure tours: "This is not hard enduro." Transylvania Trails runs a Beginners trip. EnduroNuts' Start from Zero teaches people who have never ridden a motorcycle.

Riding Red Bull Romaniacs with an operator

The Red Bull Romaniacs organiser does not rent bikes itself. It lists outside providers for race bikes and service (race service). The next edition is 27–31 July 2027 in Sibiu.

Operator Race bike Race service Other
EnduRomaniaTours €2,490–€2,990 (stated three ways) €1,190 2027 KTM, Husqvarna and GasGas
FM Tours No published price No published price Says it is the official service crew
Power Riders Tours €1,880 / €2,430 / €2,830 by tier, bike only €930 Spectator tour from €1,490
Sherco Enduro Tours Romania No published price No published price Sherco SE 300 and SEF 300 Factory
Transylvania Trails No published price €1,250 Ride-and-watch trip, €1,895

EnduRomaniaTours adds that entry needs a Romanian Motorcycling Federation (FRM) race card, €140. Book early: race week fills Sibiu's hotels.

How to choose a tour in Romania

  1. Licence. Rules differ. Sherco and EnduRomaniaTours require one. Transylvania Trails and Power Riders say you don't need one for most riding. NoMud, FM Tours and Transilvania Enduro Tours don't say.
  2. Insurance. Three operators make personal cover compulsory: Transylvania Trails (holiday cover for off-road riding), Transilvania Enduro Tours (medical cover for sport) and Sherco (travel insurance from home). Power Riders says you bring personal accident and travel cover for off-road riding and repatriation.
  3. Bike damage. Sherco covers bike damage up to €200, EnduRomaniaTours €250, Power Riders €100 or €250. Most others charge for broken parts, not scratches.
  4. Own bike or rental. Own-bike prices exist at Power Riders (€540), Transilvania Enduro Tours (€550 / €690) and EnduroNuts (€750–€1,190). Power Riders offers trailer parking. A rented bike adds about €380–€660 for the same days.
  5. Where you'll ride. Romanian law closes forest land and forest roads to motor vehicles. Leisure riding off public roads also needs the hunting-ground manager's consent. Fines are real. Read where riding is legal in Romania. EnduRomaniaTours says its routes are "officially permitted" and Sherco says its packages include "permits". No operator names the permission. Ask them in writing.
  6. Group size. Most prices assume at least 4 riders. Transylvania Trails adds 25% for 1–3 riders. EnduroNuts runs a date with one guest.
  7. Airport. Most operators collect from Sibiu (SBZ). NoMud collects from Timișoara (TSR). FM Tours collects from Sibiu or Cluj-Napoca (CLJ).

Things to do around the riding

Sibiu. Five of the eight operators are in or next to Sibiu. The city was European Capital of Culture in 2007. The city's tourism site lists the Brukenthal Museum, the Bridge of Lies, and the ASTRA open-air museum, 96 ha, 4 km from the centre (Sibiu city). Păltiniș, 32 km away at 1,440 m, is Romania's oldest mountain resort, founded in 1894. The Sibiu International Theatre Festival runs in June (10 reasons to visit).

The Transfăgărășan. The road to Bâlea Lac (2,034 m) starts 80 km from Sibiu. From November to July you can reach the lake only by cable car from Bâlea waterfall (Sibiu county tourism).

Fortified churches. Transylvania has over 150. Biertan and Valea Viilor are UNESCO-listed (Sibiu county tourism).

Food. Sibiu was a European Region of Gastronomy in 2019. Try telemea de Sibiu cheese, Sibiu salami, burduf cheese, Albota trout and local craft beer (gastronomy). The Cheese Road runs through Rășinari, Sibiel and Jina (Drumul brânzei).

Hunedoara. From FM Tours' base, Corvin Castle in Hunedoara is the big sight (Corvin Castle).

The Banat. NoMud's base at Brebu Nou is near Cheile Nerei-Beușnița National Park, 36,758 ha. Walk it; don't ride it.

Getting there

Sibiu (SBZ) is 3 km west of the city. In 2026 Wizz Air flies direct to Dortmund, Karlsruhe Baden-Baden, London Luton, Madrid, Memmingen, Milan Bergamo, Nuremberg and Rome. Austrian Airlines flies to Vienna (Sibiu airport).

Cluj-Napoca (CLJ) has direct flights to more than 50 destinations (Cluj airport). Transylvania Trails puts it about two hours' drive from Sibiu.

Timișoara (TSR) is the airport for NoMud, which includes the pickup. Budapest (BUD) also works for NoMud, for €100.

Transfers, as each operator states them: Sibiu pickup is included at EnduRomaniaTours, Sherco and Transylvania Trails. FM Tours includes Sibiu or Cluj-Napoca. Transilvania Enduro Tours says a taxi costs about €10.

When to go

Romania's climate is temperate-continental. The Banat in the west has a Mediterranean touch: milder winters and more rain, especially in autumn (ANM).

Operator seasons: NoMud and Transylvania Trails ride April to November. Transilvania Enduro Tours lists dates from April to mid-November. Sherco rides March to mid-November, with adventure tours June to October. EnduroNuts calls May to October the best time. EnduRomaniaTours says it rides all year.

Plan around two things. Red Bull Romaniacs is 27–31 July 2027, and Sibiu's hotels fill that week. Sibiu county tourism says that from November to July, Bâlea Lac on the Transfăgărășan can be reached only by cable car (Sibiu county tourism).
