How We Choose Hard Enduro Gear
Our goal is to help riders make informed decisions with practical, experience‑backed guidance. There's rarely a single best rider, terrain, climate, and budgets vary. We explain trade‑offs so you can match gear to your riding.
Safety standards we verify
- Helmets: ECE 22.06 (preferred), also note DOT/other labels.
- Boots: EN 13634 (levels, abrasion/impact/flex).
- Armor: EN 1621 (Level 1/2 for chest, back, elbows, knees).
- Braces: medical certifications and manufacturer test data.
How we assess
- We read the certification standard and verify the marking on the product.
- We cite the manufacturer specification and record the date we checked it.
- We explain what a standard does and does not measure, and where independent test data exists we link it.
- We do not test products we have not bought, and we have not bought any. Where a claim needs a product in our hands, we say so instead of implying otherwise.
Trade‑offs
Lighter vs. more protective, rigid vs. mobile, cool vs. covered. Our picks highlight where a product sits along these spectrums. What's best depends on your skills, speed, climate, and goals.
Independence
We don't accept paid placements. Recommendations are based on safety, fit, field experience, and value. When we link to stores, prices vary by region and over time, we encourage comparing options.
Global note
Availability, sizing, and pricing differ by country. Always check local stock, safety labels, and return policies. Remember to do your own research and verify prices in your area.
Editorial standards
Gear recommendations follow the same editorial principles as the rest of EnduroWow: no paid placements, honest trade-offs, and visible safety certifications on each item where available. Read our full editorial standards.
